Striving to Convince Others Against Critical Race Theory

This Independence Day, is there hope for convincing those enamored with Critical Race Theory (CRT) that this philosophy is anti-American, neo-Marxist and detrimental to the survival of America as a free country? A quote from the nation's founding era provides a glimmer. “This ardent love of one’s country is most essential to the preservation of all Republican governments,” wrote a prominent person from the founding generation.
Who wrote this? Was it Thomas Jefferson, who passed along similar advice: “I hope so much from the patriotism of all, that they will make all smaller motives give way to the greater importance of the general welfare?"
Was it John Adams, known for his anti-slavery views and this patriotic statement? "The preservation of liberty depends upon the intellectual and moral character of the people. As long as knowledge and virtue are diffused generally among the body of a nation, it is impossible they should be enslaved."
Or was it George Washington, who believed that unity was crucial to preserving freedom? "In this sense it is, that your Union ought to be considered as a main prop of your liberty, and that the love of the one ought to endear to you the preservation of the other," Washington said in his 1796 Farewell Address.
Washington understood that patriotism was a choice and that being an American was more important than any other identity, whether immigrant or natural born. "Citizens by birth or choice, of a common country, that country has a right to concentrate your affections. The name of AMERICAN, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations. With slight shades of difference, you have the same religion, manners, habits and political principles. You have in a common cause fought and triumphed together."
Jefferson, Adams and Washington could have written the introductory quote of this article, but they didn't. Their mutual enemy did.
King George III wrote: “This ardent love of one’s country is most essential to the preservation of all Republican governments." The British monarch defeated by Washington and deemed a tyrant by Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence came to understand that patriotism and unity would preserve America.
Where did King George write this? Digitized and released a few years ago by British archivists under the direction of his third great-granddaughter Queen Elizabeth II, King George III's private writings included this undated quote in a section where he described different types of governments. The tone of the quote implies that he wrote this sentiment in a more reflective mindset, perhaps after the American Revolution.
King George continued this quote about patriotism's role in preserving Republican governments by adding that "the inspiring therefore the minds of youth in the first dawn of reason, with this passion ought to be the principle view of education." In other words, this British monarch understood that the key to America's survival was to pass on a love of country to each new generation through education.
King George III was America's first arch enemy. He reacted to the Boston Tea Party by replacing the governor of Massachusetts with a military general and filling Boston with soldiers. He denied Americans the right to a warrant before a search of their home and a jury trial. He ignored the Continental Congress's Olive Branch Petition and instead declared the colonists to be in rebellion against him.
If this tyrant could develop a healthier perspective and understand the importance of unity and patriotism to America's future as a secure and independent nation, then surely there is hope to convince those lured by the neo-Marxist and communist philosophies of CRT and the 1619 Project, which have numerous historical fallacies and distortions of truth.
Not only must CRT be eliminated in schools and in the military, but advocates for it need to understand why this philosophy is destructive and results in more racism, not less. The process first requires exposure before those led astray can change. Americans need to be exposed to the dangers of Marxism and communism and the irrational circular logic of CRT, which fails to recognize the improvements made by this nation, such as adopting the 13th, 14th, 15th and 19th Amendments, the 1960s Civil Rights Acts and the integration of public schools in 1971.
Ronald Reagan reminded Americans that "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same."

Book Review, Richard Delgado’s
Critical Race Theory

Long before power is achieved, radical movements dedicated to transforming societies often reveal methods and reasons for attaining political objectives. Citizens typically discount the threat, thinking its proponents so outlandish and disruptive that the warning goes unheeded. The Communist Manifesto, Mein Kampf, Rules for Radicals, and publications by critical race theorists clearly present intentions and prerogatives, often in great detail. The primary source for this article is Richard Delgado’s book, Critical Race Theory. Delgado is one of the founders of Critical Race Theory (CRT), and along with fellow Harvard associated lawyer and CRT intellectual patriarch, Derrick Bell, advocates a doctrine that is incompatible with military service and at odds with the tenets of a constitutional republic. Among CRT’s disquieting proclamations attesting to America’s non-redeemable foundations are the following:
• America is an inherently and permanently racist society steeped in racial oppression. Race rather than class breeds stratiﬁcation. Political, social, and legal systems are by definition racist and unjust. Being invalid, they must be replaced.
• Racism is ingrained in America, and equality, freedom, meritocracy, and justice are instruments of oppression. Racial preferences in education and employment can ameliorate the problem, but the system is fatally ﬂawed and not reformable. This calls for complete transformation of the system with its inevitable demise and substitution.
CRT acknowledges debt to two foundational movements: Critical Legal Studies, where every legal case is thought not to have a correct outcome and that outcome is solely based on one’s perception and radical feminism, which emphasizes patriarchy and the social domination of men over women. Inherent in CRT’s doctrine is coopting language to control the narrative. The glossary in Critical Race Theory is 1/3 the length of the book. From intersectionality to social construction to neocolonialism, Delgado provides the approved definition. Any critic of CRT is burdened with a Catch 22 type dilemma - it cannot be criticized by conventional criteria, and only the victim can determine what is true and what is false.
CRT resorts to hypothetical narratives to convey the point, and Delgado uses them at the beginning of chapters to lead the reader toward the approved way of thinking. Questions at the end of the chapter reinforce the message. The book is written in the manner of a rudimentary text book for the true believer. Sought after conclusions rely on the premise that denies American exceptionalism and that racism is ordinary and difficult to cure, and the unique voice of color is granted a priori status to discuss racial issues. The promotion of division using an antithetical rebuttal to e pluribus unum segregates humanity into ever smaller iterations of sex, race, ethnicity, and sexual preference. Interest conversion, Bell’s signature theory, postulates that racism advances the interests of white elites materially and working class whites psychologically. This impedes change and cements white privilege in society.
CRT criticizes liberalism for incremental progress to racial problems and holds that a color blind society is not an acceptable solution. CRT’s demand for revolutionary change, contempt for traditional institutions, and the willingness to resort to extreme measures to wreak havoc can be summarized in Derrick Bell statement, “CRT recognizes that revolutionizing a culture begins with radical assessment of it.”
At the conclusion of the book Delgado shares a wish list of CRT’s goals:
- Elimination of meritocracy
- No one is compelled to assimilate within occupations, neighborhoods, and schools. Culture, language, accent, religion, and dress will be maintained without imposed penalties.
- Economic democracy
- Cumulative voting where voters cast as many votes for one candidate as the number of positions up for election
- Court regulation of hate speech
- SCOTUS acceptance of race conscious measures for jobs and education
- Follow the course of Critical Legal Studies and embed its doctrines into academic teaching and scholarship
When someone defends implementation of CRT into the military, while using euphemisms like equality, fairness, or dignity, it is prudent to return to CRT’s source documents. The goals of the movement and proposed course of action are written boldly and unequivocally. The gap between a soldier, sailor, and aviator vowing to support and defend the Constitution and a group that holds America is fatally ﬂawed and demanding its replacement is unbridgeable. Perhaps H.L. Mencken’s said it best, “The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.”
Indoctrination Vs Understanding
Recently Gen Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff, discussed the teaching of CRT at West Point. He stated we should study it to understand, but that is not how it is being presented to the troops. The following links show his comments and provide commentary reaction by the show hosts:

After some reflection, our president and chairman, Lt Gen Rod Bishop, USAF (Ret), provided the following assessment of Gen Milley’s comments:
“He got a couple of things right I think:
1. "A lot of us have to get much smarter on whatever the theory is.”
2. "It’s important, actually, for those of us in uniform to be open-minded and be widely read."
What he didn't address—and wasn't really addressed by the Congressmen in the room—is there is a HUGE difference between "studying" a theory and "implementing" it!!!
As Gen Milley points out, most of us have read Mao, Marx, and Lenin--but until today's military, we have never endorsed Marxism and embraced their ideology--in fact we have spilled a lot of blood and spent triliions of our national treasure trying to crush it throughout the world for the last 7 decades.”
When considered in conjunction with other reports regarding the impact of CRT on military units, Gen Milley’s comments have negatively impacted the reputation of the military academies and sparked conversations across America between parents and their kids. At issue - is it still wise to encourage your son or daughter to apply for a U.S. service academy? A recent discussion on social media highlights the growing concerns.
“I was talking w/ my oldest daughter who’s a great student & athlete (& biracial, BTW) about the service academies. She expressed interest in the AFA. However in good conscience I can’t encourage her or anyone of her HS classmates to go that route given the toxic leadership I’m seeing at W.P. [West Point] and now w/ Milley. As the old expression says, “A fish rots from the head down.” Hope your story catalyzes some positive change!”
“It's an easy matter for a talking head to throw in the towel regarding US military academies. If they go under, what's the alternative? Hillsdale College with a student body of 1700? The problem is not the cadets but activist generals, admirals, and politicians, who have lowered expectations and used the institutions for social engineering. A crusading superintendent can erase decades of tradition at the snap of a finger. In my era graduation rates averaged 60% of the in-coming class. Several classes at USAFA in the last decade graduated at rates approaching 90%. All academies are beset with a massive number of Honor Code violations with few expulsions. The USAFA Aero Engineering Dept is being pushed to gut engineering math from the major because "it's too hard." I understand this department is not unique when it comes to diluting curriculum. We U.S. military academy graduates and parents of cadets need to organize and reverse the trend. As is, we are well intended but disorganized. I thought I'd never see the day when parents discouraged children from attending an academy. It made all the difference in my life and thousands like me. It's worth fighting for.”
Boots On The Ground Perspectives
Here are some of the quotes gathered from the field regarding CRT's impact:
- USAFA Cadet writes his father complaining about test questions in an "Economic Inequality" course. For answers to be "correct," they would have to be grounded in ”the principles of CRT.”
- USMA cadet complains to parents that 1/3 of the grade in a core course was based on "class participation" and cadet wasn't participating much as pro CRT discussions were expected and cadet didn't believe in CRT
- USMA cadets complain about "Living Honorably Down Days." During training on one of these days, cadets were required to watch 2 movies produced by governor Newsom's wife which were full of "leftists politicians", "leftist Hollywood personalities", and "leftist media". No conservative thought included.
- Extensive social media posts by staff and Navy Midshipmen praising the BLM movement and obscenely denouncing police.
- Class of 2025 appointee to STARRS Pres: "I don't want to draw attention to myself and I don't want to debate anyone of the plusses or minuses of conservatism vs leftist ideologies. I just thought the military was supposed to be apolitical and not push one ideology ahead of another--but that is not what I am seeing--even in my pre admission courses I am required to complete. What do you recommend?”

Page 133: “Another young man, a graduate of the Air Force Academy, explained to me one day that he and his peers – all stationed at various bases – are all planning to separate following the culmination of their service commitment. The reason? They are tired of the Defense Department teaching service members they are racist solely based on the color of their skin. These young officers do not consider themselves racist, nor have they behaved in ways that would be considered racist by their leaders or peers.”

"The first flag adopted by George Washington's Continental Army and Navy was the Grand Union Flag, which featured 13 new alternating red and white stripes to represent the 13 colonies. Washington flew this flag during the siege of Boston in March 1776. Because it featured a small version of the British flag in the upper left, a new flag was needed, especially after the Continental Congress issued the Declaration of Independence and changed the colonies to states on July 4, 1776. America's founding ideals are under assault. May we rise to achieve those ideals soon.
